Bachelet: UN-Women represents an enormous challenge E-mail
New York, NY. September 2010.- Former chilean president, Michelle Bachelet, described her appointment as UN-Women as an inmense dare she accepts willingly.
 
On exclusive interview for Radio UN, Mme. Bachelet pointed out that her designation represents areward for the achievements of her government and Chile's women political advances.
 
She considered her experience as head of state and her relationships with other leaders will contribute to the advancement of gender equality.
 
"Mi experience on gender equality, rights equity, fighting against violence and discrimination... is an important part of my life's story. Not just from women's perspective, but men, children and aging people. I want to deliver all of this into this new task I've been asigned, which is leading this new United Nations structure".
 
The new entity for gender equality, UN-Women, was created by resolution of the General Assembly on july 2nd 2010, and it merges 4 UN agencies dedicated to the advancement of women. UN-Women will be operative from january 1rst, 2011.
