These Orientation Points on the slave trade and trafficking of women aim at making an important contribution in preventing and solving the chaos that prevails in several communities as a result of human trafficking. They will also provide accurate information on uninformed migration, the new ways of fraud and exploitation, the new routes used for migration and human trafficking and general aspects of the labour market at the countries of destination.

With these Orientation Points, the government pretends to properly address these issues and refer them to the corresponding institutions for accurate research, review and the correct application of existing laws and regulations; to coordinate actions with civil society organizations and keep an updated registry of the cases that have been examined with the intention of compiling statistical information to document this situation for future reference.

“For the Dominican Republic’s Women Ministry this day is one of major importance, since we are sharing for the first time significant information which constitutes an advancement in the fight and the attention given to women’s migration and illegal trafficking in our country”, said Mrs. Germán, highlighting that this problem represents a severe violation to human rights and a serious felony, which is to be dealt with in all sectors.

All province and municipal representatives that attended the event received the educational material that will assist their technical staff in orienting, preventing and giving attention to women who find themselves in violent or vulnerable situations related to illegal migration, trafficking or exploitation. The Kits contain Guides, Manuals, Booklets, National and International Protocols, Directories on Embassies and Consulates and Laws and Regulations related to examining and handling of such cases, as well as promotional material allusive to the subject.
