Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. 28-30 Octubre 2010.- The United Nations International Training and Research Institute for the Advancement of Women - UN INSTRAW (now part of un Women) - in collaboration with the Centre for Gender Equality in Latin America and the Caribbean, based at the Division of Gender Affairs of the Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLA), with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development (AECID), is convening an Experts Group Meeting on Electoral bodies Statistical Information Systems, from a Gender Perspective, being held at UN INSTRAW international Headquarters, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from 28-30 October 2010.
This activity is intended to deepen inside the knowledge of Electoral Information Systems, to reach conclusions that support and impact on the creation of data and indicators that contribute to making visible the gaps and progress in women's political participation at all levels.
Each work session begins with the presentation of the topic to be discussed, followed by the participation of commentators for each panel, with the aim of stimulating debate and encouraging the audience's participation.
The meeting will gather representatives from local electoral bodies, regional and international, national mechanisms for the advancement of women, as well as organizations and individuals specializing in election issues, political participation of women and gender equality, with emphasis on the Andean Region, Central America and the countries of Argentina, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Paraguay.
