Colombian women in Spain invest in the well-being of their families

Colombian women who migrate to Spain as workers send remittances more frequently and continuously than migrant men. Their economic support, through remittances, to the Central Western Metropolitan Area (AMCO) of Colombia represents 54% of the total amount sent.

The media has incredible potential to be a change agent in relation to gender equality. Considering that women are the central focus of only 10% of news stories, mass media in general does not give an accurate representation of reality or take into account the current changes in perceptions or gender norms and roles.

The Panel is jointly organized by UN-INSTRAW and the Programme to Prevent and Address Disasters (PPD) of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
