Establishment of a New Composite Entity for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment:Key Messages, Background and Current Status
In September 2009, the General Assembly adopted a resolution that “strongly supports the consolidation ……into a composite entity”. All parts of the United Nations, its subsidiary organs, entities and programmes support the establishment of a new Composite Entity, which will sharpen the focus and impact of the gender equality activities of the entire United Nations system.
[Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, 11 March 2010] Women are the new
face of migration, migrating independently in larger and larger
numbers. Six case studies from four continents show that migrant women
face different difficulties and make different gains. All of the
studies show the need to overcome obstacles to gender equality to reach
women’s full empowerment and for the origin and destination countries
to be able to link migration and development.
The Gender Training Community of Practice started its Fourth Virtual Dialogue on "Gender Training for Humanitarian Aid" on March 15 until April 2, 2010.
On the 8th of March, International Women’s Day, the United Nations International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women salutes women around the world who are doing their part to advance the standing of women.
