Bolivia and Ecuador signed an agreement to eradicate harassment and political violence

Within the framework of International Women’s Day, UN-INSTRAW in coordination with the Association of Women Mayors of Bolivia (Asociación de Concejalas de Bolivia - ACOBOL) and the Federation of Municipal Associations of Bolivia (Federación de Asociaciones Municipales de Bolivia - FAM) organized the workshop Equality in Local Power: Strengthening governance and women’s political participation, on 6-7 March 2008 in La Paz, Bolivia.

 
Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) – 52nd Session

Carmen Moreno, Director of UN-INSTRAW, participated in the 52nd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) being held from 25 February to 7 March 2008 at United Nations Headquarters. In her statement, and in line with the priority theme of the CSW session, Moreno emphasized that investment in the empowerment of women is a prerequisite to achieving the Millennium Development Goals.

 
Working with the security sector for inclusive security, justice and gender equality

DCAF, OSCE/ODIHR and UN-INSTRAW, launch the “Gender and Security Sector Reform (SSR) Toolkit”, a comprehensive tool to strengthen the security sector’s response to violence against women and other gender-based crimes. The Toolkit includes 12 Tools and easy-to-follow Practice Notes on different areas of security sector reform.

 
Women act for sustainable peace and gender equality in Africa

UN-INSTRAW launched two new projects in Africa that aim to support the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR), by calling for the full and equal participation of women in all peace and security initiatives, along with mainstreaming of gender issues in the context of armed conflict, peacekeeping and post-conflict reconstruction.
