The experts in UN-INSTRAW’s Gender Training Community of Practice will meet virtually to discuss about the empowerment of women for their leadership and political participation.

Women politicians and experts on the issue of governance and political participation gathered at a meeting held at the UN-INSTRAW headquarters to discuss women’s political empowerment, the strengthening of local, national and supranational mechanisms for the advancement of women and the development of public policies and gender equality.

The Global Forum for Migration and Development, taking place in Athens, Greece, this week, is focused on the integration of migration policies into development to find strategies that benefit all.

This 31 October marked the 9th anniversary of Security Council Resolution 1325, on Women Peace and Security. UN-INSTRAW and the United Nations commemorated the anniversary through improved advocacy, attention and resources to support the resolution’s full implementation.

The Executive Board of UN-INSTRAW, meeting in its Resumed Sixth session on 1 October 2009 in New York, commended the Institute on the progress made and new initiatives taken. The Board also approved the proposed UN-INSTRAW 2010 budget.

Representatives from the UN-INSTRAW programme “Gender, governance and women’s political participation,” will participate in the “III International Congress, which will focus on the topic of Electoral Studies:  Parties, elections and quality of democracy in globalization.” The representative will present a new UN-INSTRAW initiative within the thematic scope of electoral systems and gender.
