I am a graduate student at Stanford University in the International Policy Studies program. I have just secured an internship in Tanzania this summer, working with Technoserve (http://www.technoserve.org).

Prior to my arrival in Africa I doing some preliminary research to better understand what kinds of strategies other organizations have used to better include women in their programs. My hope is to identify some examples or best practices, particularly with respect to value chain and entrepreneurship programs, for 1) increasing participation of women, 2)  strengthening women’s role as household and business decision-makers and 3) increasing women’s access to income and resources associated with or generated by these interventions.

How much efficient is gender training in conflict and post-conflict areas?
What are the obstacles that render it more arduous to implement in these regions? Particularly, are women in these areas more vulnerable and susceptible to gender-based discriminations and various types of abuse?
