Kelly Spann from US asked:
I am a graduate student at Stanford
University in the International Policy Studies program. I have just
secured an internship in Tanzania this summer, working with Technoserve
(http://www.technoserve.org).
Prior to my arrival in Africa I doing some preliminary research to
better understand what kinds of strategies other organizations have
used to better include women in their programs. My hope is to identify
some examples or best practices, particularly with respect to value
chain and entrepreneurship programs, for 1) increasing participation of
women, 2) strengthening women’s role as household and business
decision-makers and 3) increasing women’s access to income and
resources associated with or generated by these interventions.

What did the GT CoP respond?
Guyo Sarr Huko a CoP member from Kenya said:
Hello Kelly,
Welcome to East Africa for your internship.
I am a member of GT CoP. I live in Kenya and working for a public university. I am a trainer in social sciences and have just joined CoP.
As regards your internship, I will be more than willing to contribute to your body of research. I have learnt that your area of research squarely lies in my specialization areas with training ie enhancing women participation in livelihood and increasing their decision making in businesses.
Both of these areas are actually steps towards capacity building - which are my current PhD topics understudy.
Although your internship is in Tanzania, it will really give you a comparative view of status of women in East Africa if you manage to visit also Kenya and I will introduce you to some women groups in Kenya.
Welcome again to East Africa.
