Welcome to the UN-INSTRAW Gender Training CoP Web Site!
The Gender Training CoP aims to bring together
practitioners from all over the world with a diversity of knowledge and
experiences, in order to take stock of the present situation of gender
training; what the real successes and failures have been and how gender
training can be strengthened as a component of gender mainstreaming and
sustainable development.
This web site is the home and workspace of the
Gender Training CoP to encourage dialogue and exchange of experiences
and also to facilitate access to information on gender training.
This is an initiative that is being developed with the contribution of the Government of Mexico.
You will find a Gender Training Wiki with
the most updated and complete information on institutions, trainings,
training materials and opportunities on gender training; examples and
templates of key documents associated with successful gender training.
The Gender Training Virtual Dialogues
host both formal , structured discussion on specific topics and are
facilitated by Gender Training Experts form all over the world. and also provide CoP members with an opportunity for
active and informal dialogue on topics of their own choice that are
related to gender training. Members are invited to initiate new
discussion threads and to contribute to ongoing discussions.
We are evaluating the UN-INSTRAW Gender Training Community of Practice!
We want to assess how much the GT CoP has been able to fulfill its objectives; what CoP members think about the GT CoP and the activities carried out and how useful these have been for their work as gender trainers. We also want members ideas about how the GT CoP be improved.
The Compendium of Good Practices in Gender Training aims to make gender equality training and capacity development more effective by collecting and assessing good practices in Gender Training, in the view of their promotion, replication and systematization of lessons learned.

Do you have any questions about
Gender Training?
Do you need information on what is going on a specific geographical
area? What methodologies are being used by certain organizations? What
topics are included in Gender Training Curricula in different
situations?
Would you like to know more about how Gender Training has evolved, what the current trends are?
What Gender Training Methodologies do you favor more? Why? Do you have
one specific Gender Training Methodology that you always use or do you
prefer changing depending on objectives, context and audience of the
particular gender training process? What concrete experiences can you
share with the CoP?
To be effective, gender training should involve senior management:
“Often the gender training audience consists of staff in lower management positions and it is crucial that more senior management attend trainings to ensure gender sensitivity within institutions.” This is one of the main results of the Virtual Dialogue on the Current Situation in Gender Training, hosted by UN-INSTRAW in October 2008.
Check out the exchange that took place during our first virtual dialogue "Current Situation in Gender Training" from September 22nd to October 28th, 2008.
