Oslo, Norway
11-13 November 2009
From 11 to 13 November 2009, the Norwegian NGO FOKUS - Forum for Women and Development, UN-INSTRAW and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted an international conference entitled, "Putting Policy into Practice: Monitoring the implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security". The conference brought together over 140 representatives of international women's organizations, networks, the United Nations and governmental organizations.
The main objectives of the Conference were:
- To take stock of existing efforts to monitor and evaluate the
implementation of Resolutions 1325 and 1820, including through existing
National Action Plans – and to identify concrete good practices and
lessons learned since the first NAPs were adopted in 2006.
- To identify concrete ways to strengthen monitoring and evaluation
of the implementation of Resolutions 1325 and 1820, including through
specific indicators built into National Action Plans; and
- To support dialogue and exchange between countries that are
developing and/or implementing their own National Action Plans in order
to strengthen the monitoring and evaluation component, including
through the establishment of regional network mechanisms and a virtual
community on Resolution 1325.
The conference provided a forum for information sharing, brainstorming and collaboration, and yielded a number of key recommendations and next steps. In the coming months, the conference organizers will be responding to some of these outcomes and sharing information through this website. Please check back for these updates and tools.
