As with the other entities of the United Nations’ gender equality architecture, UN-INSTRAW collaborates with DAW on various initiatives, including the gathering of information on Financing for Gender Equality and the creation of a network on women, political participation and decision-making in Africa.

International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) |
|
UN-INSTRAW has partnered with IFAD for the implementation of the “Gender Dimensions of Remittances: Their flows, uses and development impacts in the Philippines” project (2007-2008), which seeks to analyze women’s migration and remittances between Italy and the Philippines from a gender perspective. The project is being implemented with funding from IFAD and in collaboration with the Filipino Women’s Council. |

Office of the Special Advisor on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women (OSAGI)

As with the other entities of the United Nations’ gender equality architecture, UN-INSTRAW collaborates with OSAGI on various initiatives, including the UN Interagency Network on Women and Gender Equality (IANWGE) and the UN Interagency Taskforce on Women, Peace and Security.

United Nations Department for Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) |
UN-INSTRAW has collaborated with DPKO on several projects, including: i) with the Logistics Support Division (LSD), a study on promoting female recruitment and retention, which identified a number of concrete entry points for increasing female recruitment, and resulted in the appointment of a Gender Outreach Officer; ii) with the Integrated Training Service (ITS) and the Best Practices Section, a workshop on Gender Mainstreaming in Peace Support Operations at UN-INSTRAW’s headquarters in Santo Domingo (June 2007); and iii) with the Best Practices Section, the creation of a Mapping of Gender Training for Peacekeepers [link], which provides a global overview of pre-deployment and in-mission gender training.

United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) |
As with the other entities of the United Nations’ gender equality architecture, UN-INSTRAW collaborates with UNIFEM on various initiatives, including bringing a gender perspective to security sector reform initiatives, particularly in the context of Haiti, and women’s political participation at the local level in Latin America (Central America, the Andean Region and Mexico). In 2005, UN-INSTRAW signed a Letter of Agreement with UNIFEM that seeks to strengthen collaboration on gender equality and the empowerment of women between the two organizations.

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) |
UN-INSTRAW has partnered with UNDP on several projects; including:
i) with the Gender Unit Team and the Capacity Development Group , a project on “Gender and Remittances: Building Gender-Responsive Local Development” (2007-2008), which will analyze women’s migration and the local development impacts of remittances in Albania, Dominican Republic, Lesotho, Morocco, Philippines and Senegal from a gender perspective;
ii) with the Latin American Sub-Regional Resource Facility (LAC-SURF), the production of a tool “Security for All: Violence against women and the security sector,” which aims to assess and improve the security sector response to violence against women in Latin America;
iii) with the Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery, a series of workshops and other capacity-building tools on mainstreaming gender in CPR.

UN-INSTRAW has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UNESCO that seeks to strengthen collaboration on gender equality and the empowerment of women between the two organizations.

In 2007, UN-INSTRAW signed a ground-breaking agreement with UNF and the United Nations Fund for International Partnerships (UNFIP), which established a Fund for UN-INSTRAW in order to generate more private-sector funding for gender equality and the empowerment of women.

United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) |

In addition to the other UN Research and Training Institutes, UN-INSTRAW maintains a close working relationship with UNITAR, which in 2007 included co-organizing “Gender Equality and Government: The Americas Forum”, in which UN-INSTRAW’s Director gave a keynote address, and the Institute presented its work on quota systems for women’s political participation; and participating in a Webinar on ICT Policy and the Girl Child.

United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) |
UN-INSTRAW is collaborating with UNPFII on the implementation of the “Participation of Indigenous Women in Information and Communication Technologies” project (2007-2010), which includes the preparation of a mapping of indigenous women’s and ICT organization in Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru, and the development of a toolkit on communications for indigenous women’s groups. In April 2007, UN-INSTRAW presented a paper to the Permanent Forum on the political participation of indigenous women in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala and Peru.

MINUSTAH
|
United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) |
UN-INSTRAW currently serves as the disaster recovery site and evacuation command centre for MINUSTAH, providing logistical support and access to facilities for UN peacekeepers in Haiti. In addition, the Gender Unit of MINUSTAH is cooperating with the Institute in a gender assessment of the Haitian security sector, financed by the Government of Norway.

UN-INSTRAW has developed a close working relationship with UNFPA, which has financed three case studies on the gender dimensions of migration and remittances in Dominican Republic (2005), Guatemala (2007) and Southern Africa (2007 – women’s migration from Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe to South Africa).
