UN-INSTRAW participated in this Regional Forum organized by the City of Atlanta and the Atlanta International Training Center for Government Authorities (CIFAL), on 5-7 September 2007, Atlanta, Georgia.
Ms Carmen Moreno, Director of UN-INSTRAW, presented the results of the Institute’s research “Experiences from Latin America: Quota mechanisms for women’s political participation”. This study presents an analysis of the impact of different quota laws and mechanisms which have been instrumental in generating public debate on the disparity in the distribution of power and identifying women’s needs in terms of access, participation and permanence in the political arena.
