Maria Civit Teixido, Specialist in Disaster Prevention of UNDP and Nic ola Popovic, Specialist in Gender, Peace and Security of UN-INSTRAW will participate in the panel, which aims to highlight that risk management should be conceived and implemented with a gender perspective in order to contribute to reducing the vulnerability of the population in general and particularly women, who belong to one of the most vulnerable groups in disaster situations.

“Men and women have different needs and perceive crisis and emergency situations differently. To include the gender perspective in disaster prevention and response means to reflect and react appropriately to these needs. A pregnant woman, a single mother with children or a physically challenged girl need more attention and help in an emergency situation than a person who does not haveface these limitations,” stated Nicola Popovic.
“This initiative aims at promoting the integration of women’s participation in all levels of risk management in the country, including management and decision-making, risk evaluation, early warning, information management, and education and training, among other activities,” explained Maria Civit Teixidó.
This panel is part of the activities carried out by the
Gender, Peace and Security Programme of UN-INSTRAW and aims to promote more effective
Gender Training and Capacity-Building for Security Sector Personnel.
