The Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies has published the results of their Euro-Mediterranean project, “Intercultural Dialogue on Violence Against Women”, financed by the Anna Lindh Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures

The year-long project was undertaken by organizations in five partner countries: ANTIGONE - Information Centre on Racism, Ecology, Peace and Non Violence (Greece), ISIS Center for Women and Development (Morocco), HEURA (Spain), Alliance for Arab Women (Egypt) and the Mediterranean Institute of Gneder Studies (Cyprus).

The projects initial aim was to bring 25 women of different backgrounds together to discuss areas of concern. The results and recommendations of the project reflect the diversity of the countries.

In Greece, there has been an increase in the number of police investigations of human trafficking in the country. The project found that in Spain disabled and migrant women were more prone to be victims of violence. And in Egypt, there are many discriminatory laws against women, yet, the current social and political conditions are allowing for more women to participate in the public sphere.

Though the project results show that countries in these Euro-Mediterranean area have made some significant progress, it still shows that there is still a lot of work to be done.
