Meeting of parliamentary women in Madrid PDF Print E-mail
The Meeting of Parliamentary Women, “Towards a Political Agenda for Gender Equality in Latin America and the Caribbean,” seeks to establish a space for dialogue, debate and proposals to create a common political agenda for gender equality. UN-INSTRAW will participate in the event on 15-16 June.

More than 60 parliamentary members from 20 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean and 20 Spanish women Members of Parliament will meet with specialists from the region. The meeting aims to contribute to the strengthening of women’s political participation in Parliaments of Latin America and the Caribbean.  The meeting is structured around three key thematic issues: “Women playing a leading role in face of the economic crisis”; “Strengthening women’s political participation in Latin America and the Caribbean”; and “Developing a gender agenda in Latin American and Caribbean Parliaments.”

Participating female parliamentarians will have the opportunity to exchange experiences and debate in conferences and panel discussions, in addition to other activities.

Special coverage will be given to the event through a virtual platform that will be available world-wide.

A Knowledge Fair, located in the “Light Court” on the webpage created for the event, provides a space to exchange successful experiences on political participation, employment and social protection, sexual and reproductive health, and laws and equality policies, with the aim of improving the gender agenda and building alliances.

The event is sponsored by the Spanish Trust Fund-UNDP and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID), in collaboration with UNIFEM.
