First international conference on women and the media |

The first international conference on women and the media, titled “Violence against women, information or spectacle?” will be held in Valencia, Spain from 27-28 of October 2008. The event is organized by the Generalitat Valencia in collaboration with Tolerencia Cero and Coso Fundacion.
The conference will analyze how the media reports violence against women (VAW) and it aims to produce a guide for how news coverage in the media about VAW can be improved. The conference will cover a range of topics, such as the causes and social context of VAW; the strong and weak points in news reporting; and self regulation versus ethical codes.
Each topic will be presented through a panel discussion with a moderator. Media professionals and academics from all over the Mediterranean region are expected to participate in these interactive discussions.
