From November 19th to 21st 2007, UN-INSTRAW participated in the High-Level Dialogue on the National-Level Implementation of Resolution 1325 (2000) in Latin America and the Caribbean. This event was organized by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Gender Issues and the Advancement of Women (OSAGI) and the Women and Development Unit of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) at the UN regional commission headquarters in Santiago de Chile.

Rachel Mayanja, the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Gender Issues and the Advancement of Women moderated the dialogue between representatives from Ministries of Women and Defense from 10 countries in the region. A risk-assessment of the region was presented by Professor Ilja Luciak. In addition the United Nations Institute For Training and Research Programme of Correspondence Instruction (UNITAR-POCI) and Professor Ximena Jimenez presented a recently-developed Spanish-language online training course on UNSCR 1325.

Representatives from Member States in the region debated future activities, challenges and opportunities for the development of national action plans to put UNCR 1325 into practice in their respective countries. UN-INSTRAW welcomes the enthusiasm and commitment of national representatives of the region to making this ground-breaking resolution on women, peace and security a reality.
