UN-INSTRAW and the Center for Arab Women Training and Research (CAWTAR) organized a National- Round Table on the Political Participation of Women in the Maghreb, on Wednesday, 26 November 2008, at CAWTAR headquarters in Tunisia.

UN-INSTRAW and ACSUR-Madrid opened the international meeting “Migrant women, women caregivers: new sexual division of labour,” which will take place at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), from 1 to 3 December 2008.

Violence against women (VAW) has been on the agenda of women activists and human rights organizations for decades, including at the centre of the UN’s agenda on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

In the context of the 8th anniversary of Resolution 1325, UN-INSTRAW, with the support of the Office of the Special Advisor to the Secretary General on Gender Issues and the Advancement of Women (OSAGI) and International Alert, is launching the virtual dialogue “Planning for Action: Good Practices on Implementing UNSCR 1325 on a National Level,’’ to take place from 3 to 21 November 2008.

On the occasion of the International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction (8 October 2008), the International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (UN-INSTRAW) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is launching the study: Sexual and Reproductive Health and Violence of Vulnerable Persons: Tropical Storm Noel in the Dominican Republic at UN-INSTRAW headquarters on 9 October 2008.
