UN-INSTRAW launched the results of “Filling the Gaps: A Virtual Discussion of Gender, Peace and Security Research” which took place in October 2008. The discussion was an opportunity for over 90 academics and researchers from universities, NGOs, research institutes and international organizations around the world to fortify existing networks and build a platform for more participatory and dynamic research.

UN-INSTRAW and PROCASUR organized a “Pathways to Learning” exercise in Bolivia from 12 to 15 September 2008. The eighteen participants in the Pathways included women Mayors, councilwomen, and representatives of gender machinery from Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Ecuador and Peru. The Pathway aims to support and strengthen the exchange of knowledge and ideas and analysis of the situation of women in local governments in order to propose concrete actions for the empowerment of women politicians and the promotion of public policies with a gender perspective in municipal administration.
