Despite recent advancements in the women’s movement in many Arab countries, flagrant discrimination and violence continue to be perpetrated against women in both the public and private spheres throughout the region.

The Austrian Study Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution (ASPR) will be hosting the International Civilian Peace-keeping and Peace-Building Training Program (IPT) “Women in Armed Conflict” from 12 to 24 October 2008 in Stadtschlaining, Austria.

Violence against women is one of the most pervasive and least visible abuses of human rights worldwide. To fight this phenomenon, Adovcates for Human Rights, with support from the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and the Open Society Institute’s Network Women’s Program, have developed the Stop Violence Against Women website (STOPVAW).
