The MDG3action.org website has been created by the Danish Government with the objective of promoting its campaign entitled MDG3 Global Call to Action. The campaign focuses on the third Millennium Development Goal (MDG3), and aims at securing commitment from governments to making gender equality and women’s empowerment a key issue.
Among the important issues to be promoted are an increase in governmental allocations and assistance to gender equality and empowerment, establishing new measurable milestones for achieving the MDG3, improving statistics and investments in gender equality and women’s empowerment, involvement of the private sector and public/private partnerships in promoting gender aspects and the economic empowerment of women.
Notwithstanding the steady improvement of women’s situation in many poor countries, more needs to be done to correct the underlying causes that restrict women’s progress. Awareness-raising on gender equality and women’s empowerment are considered key aspects to achieving the MDGs by the year 2015.
