The Austrian Study Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution (ASPR) will be hosting the International Civilian Peace-keeping and Peace-Building Training Program (IPT) “Women in Armed Conflict” from 12 to 24 October 2008 in Stadtschlaining, Austria.

The course aims to prepare experts who already work, or plan to work, in (post) conflict zones to include a focus on gender issues in their work, either in relation to the situation and role of women affected by armed conflict or within the peacekeeping operation.

From August 10 to 30 the IPT will hold “Child Protection, Monitoring and Rehabilitation,” which aims to prepare experts in monitoring, advisory, and executive functions related to children in crisis areas and also deal with gender issues.

IPT is a practically-oriented training program for experts of various professional backgrounds who work as civilians in conflict regions – be it for international organizations like the UN or the OSCE, or for governmental or non-governmental organizations.

Participants come from all continents, as do trainers who are experts in their field with their own working experience in crisis regions.

The application deadline for Women in Armed Conflict is 1 August 2008 and for the Child Protection Training Scholarships, 14 June 2008. Scholarships are available for participants from non-OECD states.
