UN-INSTRAW and the Regional Training Programme on Gender and Public Policies (PRIGEPP), at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) in Argentina, will initiate a Virtual Expert Round Table for specialists with the objective of discussing the situation of gender-sensitive public policies in Latin America from 17 to 24 November 2008.

Approximately 80 women from academia institutions, representatives of local and national governments, international institutions, political parties and civil society organizations will meet at the virtual round table to discuss public policies in connection to four issues: women’s representation at all governmental levels, gender mechanisms, gender-sensitive budgets and political violence against women.

The meeting will combine video-conferencing and workshops based on documents that have been prepared by UN-INSTRAW on the four issues.  The results of the debate will be included in the final preparation of documents on politics that UN-INSTRAW will distribute amongst strategic actors for the design and implementation of public policies in the Region.

The Round Table will be led by Gloria Bonder, Director, Gender, Society and Politics Area of FLACSO Argentina and Director of PRIGEPP; Susana Rico Cronenbold, Latin American Political Participation Advisor of UN-INSTRAW; and Lilia Rodríguez, Round Table Coordinator.
