FemLINKpacific, a women’s media network on UN Security Council Resolution 1325, launched its first policy initiative on 30 October 2008, which will serve as a guide for civil society organisations and governments in the Pacific region.

The policy document is a result of a three-month research process that involved correspondents for FemLINKpacific working in Fiji, Bouganville, Solomon Islands and Tonga. The correspondents interviewed 288 women, whose experiences and views were considered and consolidated into the policy creation of the initiative. It aims to provide women in the Pacific region an outlet for their voices to be heard in the promotion of a culture of peace on a political level.  The preparation of the document was supported by AUSAID, the Australian government’s aid agency.

FemLINKpacific is a non-profit media organisation based in Fiji that grew out of a pilot project initially supported by UNIFEM on Women, Peace and Security. The organisation primarily works with young women, women with disabilities and other underrepresented women. It works in collaborating with civil society organisations, government agencies and media in influencing gender policy and planning. FemLINKpacific also runs a regular 1325 E-Bulletin, and has launched a website focused on the Resolution.
