UN-INSTRAW is appealing to provide emergency assistance to the survivors of Tropical Storm Noel in the Dominican Republic. The storm caused an immense tragedy, leaving the country in a state of national emergency. Some 87 people have been killed, 48 are still unaccounted for and approximately 3,400 have been rescued.
In order to adequately respond to the enormous extent of this natural disaster, UN-INSTRAW is conducting a rapid assessment to identify the most affected groups and areas in order to strengthen the local capacity to meet the victims` health, psychological, and legal needs.
