Bolivia: women politicians from 8 Latin American countries participate in Pathways to Learning

UN-INSTRAW and PROCASUR organized a “Pathways to Learning” exercise in Bolivia from 12 to 15 September 2008. The eighteen participants in the Pathways included women Mayors, councilwomen, and representatives of gender machinery from Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Ecuador and Peru.

Women Politicians begin Routes to Learning in Central America

With the objective of exchanging knowledge, reflecting on the situation of women in local governments and proposing concrete actions for the empowerment of women politicians, UN-INSTRAW and the Regional Association PROCASUR organized the “Routes to Learning” between Costa Rica and El Salvador from 7 to 14 August 2008.

With the aim of offering capacity-building that responds to the needs of local women politicians, UN-INSTRAW and the Regional Association (PROCASUR) will carry out two “Routes to Learning” exercises in Central America (August 2008) and the Andean Region (September 2008).

Guatemalan women denounce political violence against women
June, 2008
Very few Guatemalan women are elected to local government, and in addition, they face aggression and discrimination. This was evident in the framework of the First Interdepartmental Meeting of Women in Municipal Governments and Women’s Commissions held in Panajachel, Solalá, with the support of UN-INSTRAW.
