In 2008 UN-INSTRAW hosted two Virtual Discussions about gender and migration that generated reflection and debate on the current approach to migration, the sending and receiving of remittances, and their impact on development from a gender perspective. Participants in both discussions shared ideas about priority research topics and how to ensure that the results of on-going research and dialogue process have a concrete impact on policy and programming.This Virtual Community aims to provide a space to continue reflecting on these issues, to exchange information and to learn from one another.

The Community is made up of members from various professional backgrounds from all around the world. All of us share an interest in gender and migration. The Virtual Community has several components to help its members discuss issues of concern, share resources and information, and keep abreast of recent developments in the field:

FORUM is where the action happens! In the forum you can read and contribute to the on-going discussions, share or ask for information or start a discussion of your own. You must be a member of the community to access the forum. If you are not already a member please sign up here.

NEWS contains links to articles and broadcasts about migration and women. Members of the community can submit links to news items by signing in and clicking 'Submit News'.

OPINION
contains opinion pieces and articles written by members of the community and guest contributors. The features are available to anyone on the internet. Members of the community can submit articles by signing in and clicking 'Submit an Opinion Piece''.

EVENTS shows important dates of conferences, seminars, and other activities related to the field of gender and migration. Members of the community maintain this section by uploading events here.

LIBRARY contains resources about gender, migration and development. It too is maintained by members of the community. To add a resource to the library please login and click 'Submit to the Library'

LINKS contains information about and website addersses of international organizations, NGOs, academic groups and migrant associations working in gender and migration. To add an organization login and click Submit a Link.
