HUNGARY - PROMENADE PROJECT
Promenade Project 2006 A new initiative was born this year due to a small
group of zealous Hungarian women, called the Promenade Group: in the heart
of Budapest a „Promenade for Women” will be established by planting the
first 5 trees on the 18th of October. The main idea behind the project is to
draw attention to those women who work for the development of civil society
and whose examples are usually stay unknown by the majority. These women
devote their free time to establishing non-profit webpages dealing with
environmental protection, they set up funds to help the disabled, and they
make their best to help those in need. Promenade Group aims to start a
tradition of honouring these women with a tree in the Promenade each year.
The winners are selected carefully by a professional jury from among the
applicants. Starting only this year more than 100 applicants competed for
the unusual award. The Group is dreaming of going international: this year a
similar project was set up in Poland called Akcja Akacia. Partners from all
over the world are welcome to take part and found their own promenades. If
