ENERGIA is an international network on Gender and Sustainable Energy, founded in 1995 by a group of women involved in gender and energy work in developing countries. ENERGIA's objective is to "engender" energy and "empower" rural and urban poor women through information exchange, capacity building, research, advocacy, and action aimed at strengthening their sustainable energy development.

ENERGIA's approach is to seek to identify needed activities and actions through its membership, and then to encourage, and if possible assist, members and their institutions to undertake decentralised initiatives.

Generic Training Modules

Training packages have been designed for the training of selected practioners (policy makers, planners and project implementers, NGOs, private sector and academia) to increase their understanding of gender and energy inter-relationships and their capacity to bring gender aspects of energy into the policy and project planning.

Training modules have been developed on the following topics:

  • Gender and Energy Policy - the rationale and tools for developing and implementing gender aware policies
  • Gender and Advocacy - tools, techniques and the rationale for policy advocacy
  • Project Proposal Development - tools to plan and produce competitive energy and gender proposals

The training modules - entitled "The Gender Face of Energy" - are available in English and French and can be downloaded here.
