Description :

Gender Links, in partnership with the Institute for the Advancement of Journalism, has released a new tool kit for Southern African media trainers on mainstreaming gender in the media.

Bringing together a wealth of examples and materials in hard copy and on CD ROM, GL director Colleen Lowe Morna calls the "Gender in Media Training: A Southern African Tool Kit" the "how to" of GL’s popular first publication: "Whose News, Whose Views, a Southern African Gender in Media Handbook."

The tool kit is in three parts.

  • The first part covers context and principles: the basics of training, key gender and media concepts, gender in media law, ethics and values.
  • The second part covers gender in media skills training, including leadership and management, basic reporting, visuals, and sub editing.
  • Part three covers gender in beat training, including human rights, HIV AIDS, economic and development reporting, elections, democracy and governance.
