Description : |
The Women, Gender and Social Justice at Michigan State University is a cross-disciplinary academic program that is administered jointly by the College of Arts and Letters and the College of Social Science; the College of Arts and Letters is the primary administrative unit. The major in Women’s Studies is currently under moratorium and we are not enrolling new majors. However, the program offers an undergraduate specialization in Women, Gender, and Social Justice as an elective to students enrolled in bachelor's degree programs at Michigan State. The program will also soon offer a Graduate Specialization in Gender, Theory, and Representation. Both the specializations are interdisciplinary programs in which students explore how gender and power relationships shape our public and personal lives. Courses in our program investigate feminist criticisms of power inequities that fall along lines of race, ethnicity, class, gender identity, sexuality, nationality, age, and disability; courses also seek to create theoretical and practical means through which to correct the problems in existing social contexts by establishing more healthy forms of social life. |
